Relay (unplugged) & (extended)

Text

3-5 hours durational performance

In this unplugged version of the performance, Relay, a group of three performers take turns partnering with the wind to keep a single large black flag floating in the air. Site specific and durational, the performance can last anywhere between 3-5h in public space. The movements of the flag in the wind and the positions that the performers take evokes many different and often contradictory meanings. Relay is an open ended performance that reflects on the current state of the nation, of politics and political parties, of the people and of protest. In an extended version of the piece for three flags and 8 performers extends the work into large areas of public space including in natural settings, where it also becomes a reflection on the environment and the need to protect our public green spaces. The extended version was originally conceived for Metropolis festival in Copenhagen on Refshaleøen, a former industrial site in the harbor of Copenhagen, which hosts various artistic and commercial events and that risks to be redeveloped in the near future.
